Pelgrane Launches Stone Skin Press Fiction Imprint

Pelgrane Press Ltd, award-winning publishers of the GUMSHOE and Skulduggery roleplaying game lines, announces its new fiction imprint, launching in 2011.

Stone Skin Press kicks off with a line of original short story anthologies, each commissioned around a compelling central theme. First out of the blocks will be The New Hero, featuring the adventures of a new wave of iconic characters capable of standing toe to toe with such classic luminaries as Sherlock Holmes, Robin Hood, and Abraham von Helsing. Hard on its heels comes Shotguns v. Cthulhu, a collection of pulse-pounding action tales set in the horrific world of H. P. Lovecraft. Following it is The New Hero II, unleashing a second wave of exciting new heroes.

For its impressive line-up of authors, Stone Skin Press taps the stars of the roleplaying game scene, supplemented by a roster of illustrious names from the literary, F/SF, television and comic book fields. A brief sampling of contributors includes Ed Greenwood, Adam Marek, Alex Bledsoe, Jesse Bullington, Richard Dansky, Monte Cook, Matt Forbeck, Julia Bond Ellingboe, Jonny Nexus, and Kyla Ward. Some names have been withheld to preserve future surprise.

Publisher Simon Rogers said, “Pelgrane Press has created roleplaying work of the highest quality, aimed squarely at a community of engaged, discerning fans, distributed in multiple formats, and through many channels. That experience grants Stone Skin Press a crucial head start as a new media publisher in a turbulent market.”

Shepherding the anthologies is Stone Skin Press Creative Director Robin D. Laws, novelist and longtime Pelgrane contributor. “The hobby gaming world bursts with talent we have only begun to tap. Our authors from the wider writing world will astonish and delight. When I began commissioning these stories, I expected fine work. Instead I got great work, and can’t wait to share it with readers.”

Pelgrane Press was founded in 1999. Its head office is in London. Its creative work happens there, in Toronto, Chicago, Dublin, and in parts beyond.
